Today, I added information about Nature Mandalas and Honorable and Respectful Harvesting on my website. To sum it up very briefly...
Nature Mandalas are works of art using natural materials gathered from the locations in which they are created using Honorable and Respectful Harvesting principles. With children, I refer to the term "Respectful Harvesting" and make sure that they understand what that means. Bird Sits are a fabulous way to learn more about birds and develop observational and listening skills. The following 5 steps make up a Bird Sit.
1. Find a spot outside to visit over and over again where you can see birds. This spot must be nearby and easy to get to. 2. Make sure you are comfortable. Sit for at least 5 to 20 minutes or longer. 3. Wake up you senses. Use your senses to increase your awareness. Look and listen carefully! 4. Imagine you are a bird. Tune into the birds' world and pay very close attention to their behavior. What are they doing? Ask questions. Spark your curiosity. 5. Repeat this practice over and over again in the same spot. The birds will come to you. They will get to know you as you get to know them. For more information about Bird Sits, read the longer document on my website. |
